Free tool · REDACT
Redact Text Online Before You Share It
Paste text and get a copy with emails, phone numbers, card numbers, SSNs, IBANs and IP addresses masked.
Runs 100% in your browser. Nothing you type or upload is sent anywhere or stored.
Matching runs in this tab with regular expressions plus Luhn and IBAN checksums. Nothing is sent. Pattern matching misses things (names, addresses, context), so read the result before you share it.
How it works
Redacting means removing personal details from text before someone else sees it. This tool finds the common identifiers and swaps them for labels like [EMAIL] or [CARD], blocks, or a masked version that keeps the last four digits so the reader still knows which card you mean.
Detection is pattern based. To keep false alarms down, card numbers must pass the Luhn checksum that real cards use, IBANs must pass the mod-97 check, and dates like 2026-10-15 are not mistaken for phone numbers. When two patterns overlap, the more specific one wins.
Good uses
- Pasting logs, emails or customer chats into an AI assistant or a public forum.
- Filing a bug report or support ticket that includes real data.
- Sharing screenshots of text: redact first, then screenshot the clean version.
Redacting text is not the same as redacting a PDF. Black boxes drawn on a PDF often leave the original text underneath, so paste the text here and share the result instead.

Questions
Email addresses, phone numbers in common US and international formats, payment card numbers (checked with the Luhn checksum), US Social Security numbers written with dashes or spaces, IBANs (checked with the mod-97 checksum), IPv4 addresses and, optionally, links. You can add your own words, such as names or company names.
The redaction runs in your browser with regular expressions. The text is not sent, saved or logged. Close the tab and it is gone.
No automatic redactor catches everything. Names, street addresses, account numbers in unusual formats and context clues need a human check. Treat the output as a first pass and read it before you share.
Anything you paste into a third-party tool may be stored, logged or used for training. Masking personal data first means a leak or a curious employee on the other side sees [EMAIL] instead of your customer's address.
